Backgammon Games

GamedayPoker offers several Single Games and Tournament online backgammon games.

GamedayPoker uses the Jacoby rule for its money games tables; which states that a gammon or backgammon can only be scored if the cube has been turned by a player and taken by their opponent.

Upon consent of both players, the following rules may also be utilized in money play:

  • Automatic Doubles - Occur when both players roll the same number at the beginning of the game. The value of the doubling cube is doubled, but the cube stays in the center. Automatic doubles count only once per game.
  • Beaver – When a player doubles, the opponent has the choice of taking the cube and turning it to the next level immediately; while still owning the cube.
Table Stakes

At GamedayPoker, online backgammon games use table stakes for Single Game tables. As both players bring a predetermined amount of money to the table, each player is protected from losing more money than they can afford. This concept is widely used in the game of poker.

As an example, if you play for €1 per point and you have €5 at the table, the maximum you can win or lose is €5, even if your opponent has €15 at the table.

Match Play

Used in tournaments, a Match Play winner is the first player to accumulate an agreed number of points. Each game is worth the value of the cube multiplied by the type of win.

In Match Play, the Jacoby rules pertaining to automatic doubles and beavers are not used.
- Crawford Rule - States that the first player to reach match-point is not allowed to use the doubling cube during the following game.

*Note that the final score is irrelevant; just try to be the first to accumulate the necessary number of points to win the match.

Jackpots

- A jackpot is essentially a knock-out backgammon tournament.
- All jackpots have a number of participants that is a power of 2, i.e. the number of players can be 2, 4, 8, 16 and so on.
- After players buy in for a stake, they are randomly paired with each other and play to a certain match length.
- The winners of each round continue the tournament and are paired according to the draw sheet. This process continues until the finals are played between two players; at which time, the money will be assigned accordingly.

Tournaments

Backgammon tournaments are special jackpots. Registration typically starts two hours before a tournament begins. Make sure to visit the tournament schedule or the backgammon lobby for more information.

If the number of participants is not a power of two, byes will be given to random players. Such players will automatically advance one round without having to play against an opponent.

Several tournaments will feature an added or guaranteed prize pool; in this case, GamedayPoker has added money to the pot in addition to a player’s buy. Gameday may also, at its discretion, guarantee a certain prize pool to enhance the game experience. If the guaranteed prize pool is exceeded by the players’ buy-ins, the pot will rise according to the registered number of players.
