Omaha

Omaha and Omaha 8 or Better, also known as Omaha High / Low or Omaha Hi Lo, variations are experiencing a surge of popularity. Unlike Texas Hold’em, in Omaha each player is dealt four hole cards. The community board consists of five cards face up, which includes the flop, turn, and river.

Objective

The objective of Omaha is to have the best five card poker hand at the showdown, using exactly two hole cards and three community cards. Please visit Hand Rankings to determine the best Omaha poker hand.

Dealing and Blinds

Dealing and blinds in Omaha are similar to those in Texas Holdem; however, in Omaha, four hole cards are dealt as opposed to just two in Holdem.

Differences between Omaha and Omaha Hi Lo

In Omaha Hi Lo the pot is split between the best high hand and the best low hand. To qualify for a low hand, a player needs five cards of different ranks not higher than eight (8). Ace counts for one (1). Different low hands are compared starting with the highest card.
As an example, 8642A wins over 8732A, but loses to 85432.
